I commend the thoughtful analysis you have presented, Madam. This is a very organized approach to examining deterrence in conjunction with Kahn's escalation ladder. I am still wondering whether the ladder metaphor accurately captures the dynamics, given that while escalatory actions are graduated, Pakistan's deterrence responses that you outlined might benefit from a metaphor that implies simultaneity and variation rather than the linear progression of up/down and left/right movements. I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect on this.

Deterrence is dynamic and will stay so! So Pakistan’s deterrence ladder will also calibrate.

I concur Madam. I will pen something on the associated metaphor that could incorporate the deterrence dynamics as you have presented in your analysis. This approach can be utilised to hone the deterrence concepts of my students and I look forward to sharing it with them.
